ATHEROSCLEROSIS

It is the initial stage that leads to cardiac arrest, angina, hypertension, etc.

The process that leads to atherosclerosis begins with abnormally high levels of excess fats and cholesterol in the blood. These lipids and plaque will stick to the walls of arteries and block the flow of blood vessels.

This may happen in each artery of the human body. If it happens with the artery which supplies blood to the brain it will lead to a Stroke.

It is highly necessary to maintain lipid levels (cholesterol levels) in a period of time.

CHOLESTEROL MAINTENANCE
Normal range:
  1. Total cholesterol – below 200 mg/dl

  2. LDL (low-density lipoprotein /bad cholesterol).Less than 130mg/dl

  3. HDL (high-density lipoprotein/good cholesterol) - absorbs cholesterol, and carries it back to the liver. More than 40mg/dl

  4. Triglycerides – less than 160 mg/dl

What is CHOLESTEROL?

Organic lipid molecule which is present in the liver of the human body.

It is essential for building blocks for tissues and also aids in the production of bile juice.

Symptoms:

There are no such symptoms specifically which show high or low levels of cholesterol. You can check the levels by LIPID PROFILE blood test.

Factors which are responsible for high cholesterol levels:
  1. Alcohol and smoking

  2. Obesity
