LEUKORRHEA


















What is LEUKORRHEA?

Leukorrhea is a medical term that denotes a thick, whitish or yellowish discharge from the vagina, strictly excluding the presence of blood. Leukorrhea may be a sign of infection.


Symptoms :-
  • A thick, whitish or yellowish discharge from the vagina.

  • Fatigue or weakness.

  • Lower back or abdominal pain.

  • Pain during or after intercourse.

  • Irritability and lack of concentration.

  • Itching in the vaginal and surrounding areas.

  • Serious complications may occur if its not treated, Such as :-

-Infection of urinary tract, reproductive tract and adjacent organs.

-Pelvic inflammatory diseases.

-Infertility

-Cervical cancer.

Causes :
Causes are classified 4 types;

1) Physiological :-

Estrogen hormone imbalance can cause during white discharge during;

  • Puberty

  • Pregnancy

  • Premenstrual phase

  • Ovulation

2) Cervical :-

  • Cervical erosion

  • Cervical Cancer

  • Inflammation of cervix

3) Vaginal Infection :-

  • Vaginal infection can be caused due to insufficiency of the ovary which may disturb estrogenic function.

  • The vaginal walls are either diffusely stippled with red patches.

4) Others :-

  • Trichomonas vaginitis.

  • Oral contraceptives.

  • Inflammation from chemicals such as douches and contraceptives.

Prevention:
  1. Keep your body clean and eat a healthy diet along with adequate intake of water.

  2. Minimum stress and healthy sleeping habits can also reduce strain on the body.

  3. Swimmers or those who exercise often should change their clothes as soon as possible to prevent formation of leukorrhea-like conditions.

Cure /Treatment :-

Medical remedies for leukorrhea depend upon the underlying cause. During inflammation or infection, medication may be prescribed to reduce symptoms and kill bacteria. Physicians can decide the best suitable treatment option.


Maintain Hygiene :-
  • Keep the genital area clean by washing it everyday, particularly after passing stools. While taking a bath, clean the genital area using soap. After bathing, try to dry the area. Moisture makes the bacteria breed faster.

  • Before and after an intercourse, wash the genital area. This not only ensures vaginal hygiene, but also helps to get rid of vaginal odor.

  • Avoid wearing tight pants and garments. They don't let the skin breathe by building moisture.

  • Wear pure cotton or silk garments; avoid the synthetic or polyester ones. They become wet easily and take time to dry. Change the garment twice a day if it becomes wet.

  • To maintain genital hygiene, eat green vegetables, fresh fruits, and drink 2 liters of water.
